FAQ & Tips

Do I have to sign a long term lease?

No. Our lease terms are month to month.

Do I need to give notice when I move out?

Yes. A 10 day notice is required.

Can I rent the unit for one or two weeks?

No. Our lease terms are month to month.

Are the contents in my unit insured?

We do not provide insurance on the goods you place in your unit. We can provide information about companies who specialize in insurance for self storage or you can notify your homeowner's or renter's insurance that you are leasing a storage unit to ensure coverage.

What type of lock do I need?

We provide high security locks and keys for all of our units. Most of our units have latches that will accommodate an additional padlock. You are welcome to add one for an additional measure of security.

When can I access my unit?

You may access your unit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What do I do if I lose my key?

You will need to contact the Manager during normal business hours to issue you a new key. A $5 key charge will apply.

Can I receive FedEx or UPS shipments?

In certain locations, yes. Just speak with the manager to arrange it.

When is my rent due?

Your rent is due every month on the calendar day you signed your lease. If you signed your lease on March 17th, your next payment will be due on April 17th and so forth.

How can I pay my bill?

You can pay your bill online at our website, www.stowawaytn.com, by phone, by mail, or in person by coming by our Johnson City or Kingsport locations... We accept cash, checks, money orders, bank drafts, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Do I receive a discount if I pay in advance?

You receive a 10% discount if you pay 6 months in advance and a 12% discount if you pay 12 months in advance. However, there are no refunds on rents paid in advance.

Is my deposit refundable?

Deposits are fully refundable as long as you remove all of your belongings, the unit is clean, the lock and key are returned and a 10 day notice is given.

Self Storage Sizing Options

Loading Your Unit

Use uniform sizes of boxes and stack them shoulder high to maximize your total storage space.

Do not place heavy or sharp objects on top of upholstered furniture.

Protect your mattresses, sofas, and chairs with plastic covers.

Packing

Beds: Tape or tie the bed rails together. If you have more than one bed, label the pieces so you know which rails go with which headboard. Cover mattresses to keep them clean during moving and storage.

Books: Pack them in small boxes for easy lifting and lighter loads.

Bureaus / Dressers: Fill the drawers with sweaters, blankets or towels for packing small fragile items.

Chairs: Wrap chair legs in packing material to protect them.

Dishes/Glasses: Each dish should be wrapped separately and stacked. Also cushion the box with extra packing materials.

Photos: Place between pieces of clean cardboard and consider taping them together to prevent curling.

Lawn & Garden Equipment: Drain any liquids before storing to prevent corrosive damage.

Appliances: Store cookware in larger appliances such as refrigerators or ovens, for extra space.
